This artwork is based around the theme of how we identify the products of nuclear synthesis in the outer layers of the Sun. 'Standard Model' astrophysics has all the transformations occuring in the core of the Sun. In this scenario we have all the elements synthesised through the agency of electric z-pinches associated with solar flares. However, once released from the zone of the photosphere, these products cool to take their place in the matrix of dark spectral lines in the Chromosphere - a red part of the Sun several thousand degrees cooler than the photosphere itself.
This series of artworks function as a commentary on the methodology of contemporary scientific model-making. In that instance we have seen the inadequacies of the process multiplied by the use of supercomputers. In these works, that potential for error is overcome by the use of the phenomenology of the model railway environment and associated mechanics.
