Paul Malone : Solar Wave

Solar Wave. 1998. Acrylic on plywood box: 200 x 130 x 30 cms.

'Solar Wave' consists of two boxes that slot and screw into each other to make a composite piece that springs in curved forms away from the wall. The main body and the wave-like addition are painted in slightly different shades of yellow and the shadow of the wave shape is painted in black and grey as if falling back across the rest of the piece.

The shape is constructed in ray-like sections. Highlights chase back and forth along these lines to the point at the top, which forms the solar origin. The piece acts as the magnification of a corpuscle of light and its waveforms, as it propagates across space.
